Yazidis

Yazidis is a Middle-Eastern religion which has a special and old history. The origin of Yazidis may be earlier than the origin of Christianity. Yazidis disciples consider themselves to be an ethnoreligious group. They are a small part of Kurdish people, but most of the Kurdish people believe in Islam. Thus, there is a long history of Muslim discrimination against the Yazidis.

Population:

Yazidis are a small religious minority in Iraq. Their total population is about 70 thousand people who are mostly spreading out at the North of Iraq. They live in an isolated area, with economic poverty and scarcity of resources.

Religious Beliefs:

Yazidis combine both polytheism and monotheism. Their religious beliefs relate to Mesopotamian religious culture. Their religious culture is a special culture which includes parts of Christianity, Islam, Judaism, Brahmanism, and others (natural religion). Yazidis believe that they are the descendants of Shehid bin Jer who is Adam's son.

Reasons Of Religious Discrimination:

They believe that angel Shaytan is the best angel, but Shaytan refused God which caused other religious groups to believe he is Satan. In others’ view, Yazidis are the people who believe in Satan, so they are discriminated against. Another reason is the Yazidis' strict laws, such as their rules of marriage: marriage is limited to within the Yazidis community. If anyone marries a person with a different religious belief, that Yazidis will be punished. In 2007, a Yazidis woman married a Muslim man, then, thousands of Yazidis cast stones that killed the woman. Other Islamic extremists (ISIS) were enraged as well and a lot of Yazidis were killed as a result.

ISIS

The full name of ISIS is “Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (al-Sham).” They call themselves the "Iraq & Arabic Independent States that are doing "Holy Combats" with "Iraq Powers" that are not condoned by the other Middle Eastern countries. ISIS seeks to build Islamic countries that are united by Islamic ideals. Because they captured and killed common civilians and journalists then spread threatening videos to the world, most of the Middle Eastern countries and most of the countries in the United Nation defined ISIS as a Middle Eastern terrorist organization.

ISIS has been involved in conflicts in Iraq, Syria, Libya, and Afghanistan.
